🏋🏻Core competencies to be trained:

Recognize the capnography pattern typical of severe COPD during mechanical ventilation (MV)

Interpret changes in the PaCO₂–PetCO₂ gradient

Infer its role in managing MV in this clinical scenario

📌 Clinical Case

A 75-year-old male, a former smoker, was intubated due to an acute exacerbation of COPD secondary to a viral respiratory infection.

🏋🏻In this exercise, you will:

Activate the mainstream capnograph

Interpret the capnogram waveform

Interpret the PaCO₂–PetCO₂ gradient and its value and limitations in monitoring lung ventilation
