A challenging patient-ventilator asynchrony in a patient with asthma exacerbation

By: Marcelo Alcantara, Médico - 08/21/2017 20:28

A 21-year-old man was intubated because of acute respiratory failure due to asthma exacerbation.

The patient was deeply sedated (RASS score: -5).

The following asynchrony was present in the ventilator screen.

What type of asynchrony is it?

What are possible explanations for it?

What intervention would you suggest?
