Journal Club: Official ERS/ATS guidelines: NIV for acute respiratory failure
By: Marcelo Alcantara, Médico - 02/17/2018 13:04
The American Thoracic Society (ATS) and the European Respiratory Society (ERS) published in 2017 official practice guidelines on non-invasive ventilation (NIV) for acute respiratory failure based on the most current literature.
This guideline committee developed recommendations for 11 questions in a PICO (population–intervention–comparison–outcome) format.
The following conditions received clear recommendations: exacerbation of COPD, cardiogenic pulmonary edema, de novo hypoxaemic respiratory failure, immunocompromised patients, chest trauma, palliation, post-operative care, weaning, and post-extubation.

Xlung strongly recommends a reflexive reading of this paper as there is much room for improving our practice on NIV worldwide.
