JOURNAL CLUB: High-flow nasal oxygen versus conventional oxygen therapy in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia and mild hypoxaemia: a randomised controlled trial

By: Marcelo Alcantara, Médico - 05/25/2022 11:29

This interesting paper was published last week. The first author is Dr. Claudia Crimi, from the Respiratory Medicine Unit, Policlinico "G. Rodolico-San Marco" University Hospital, Catania, Italy, and many investigators in Europe (the COVID-HIGH study)

A RCT aimed to examine whether HFNO compared with conventional oxygen therapy (COT) could prevent escalation of respiratory support in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia and mild hypoxemia.

Contrary to the study hypothesis, the authors found no significant difference in the rate of escalation of respiratory support within 28 days between patients randomized to HFNO compared with COT.

But, take a look at the figure below:

Then, let's discuss the paper in-depth here in our Forum Xlungers!
