A 51-year-old man has been treated in a hospital for heart failure and acute pulmonary edema. He was receiving furosemide and he complained of muscle weakness. He had a serum potassium of 2.9mEq/l. An ABG exam was obtained while he was breathing room air, his respiratory rate was 19bpm.
