What’s the most plausible explanation for the findings in the ventilator curves of this patient with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)?

A patient with chronic liver disease and metabolic acidosis was intubated and diagnosed with pneumonia and severe ARDS. The ventilator was set in the A/C-VCV (volume controlled) mode, with a Tidal Volume (VT) of 6ml/kg of predicted body weight and an inspiratory time of 1 second.
He was continuously sedated, RASS: -5.

What’s the most plausible explanation for these findings?
a) VT is set to low
b) Superficial sedation
c) Increased respiratory drive
d) Inspiratory flow is set to low
e) Problems in the triggering function of the ventilator
